Manipur: Four Arrested in Imphal East; Seize Arms and Ammunition from Churachandpur, Kangpokpi

IMPHAL: The Manipur Police arrested four individuals, including a juvenile, from Kshetrigao Sabal Leikai, Imphal East District, on Sunday.

The arrested individuals were identified as Ningombam Lemba Singh (25), Mangshatabam Poireinganba Meitei (21), and Laishram Bidyas Singh (21). The fourth individual, a juvenile, has been apprehended and is being handled in accordance with the provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act.

During the operation, the police seized a cache of weapons and other items, which included a Ghatak rifle with a magazine and five live rounds, as well as a country-made pistol.

The accused also possessed a 32-inch pistol with a magazine and a four-wheeled vehicle. The authorities also accused the suspects of posing a threat to the general public in the area, thereby raising concerns about residents' security.

Security forces in Manipur intensified their operations in a separate incident, resulting in significant recoveries of arms and ammunition in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts. In Phaikhothang Village, Churachandpur District, search operations led to the recovery of one SLR rifle with one magazine, one 9mm pistol, one 12-bore single-barrel gun, fifteen live rounds of ammunition, one tracer round, two tear smoke shells (CS), and four rubber bullets.

The items seized in Loibol Khunou, Kangpokpi District, include a sniper rifle, a modified Lathode gun, two 9mm pistols with two magazines, a single-barrel breech-loading (SBBL) gun, seven live rounds of ammunition, a fired Lathode case, a 38mm anti-riot cartridge with a rubber bullet, three normal tear smoke shells, two stun grenades, and a Baofeng wireless set.
