IMPHAL: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has called on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to accelerate the progress of ongoing highway projects in the state and ensure their completion within the set deadlines.

During a meeting at Raj Bhavan in Imphal, M S Deval, Executive Director of NHIDCL, gave an update on the status of various national highway projects currently under construction in the state, highlighting the challenges encountered in their implementation.

The Governor stressed the significance of completing these projects on schedule, noting that enhanced road connectivity is vital for the state's development.

Meanwhile, the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU) issued a warning of bandhs starting from January 25 if the construction of the Package B highway project did not commence by then.

The newly elected president of ANSU, Lezen Gyadi, gave a one-month ultimatum to the government of Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the unprecedented delay in the 11-kilometer highway construction worth Rs 342 crore, which had been pending for almost four years.

ANSU expressed its concerns over the prolonged delay and urged the Public Works Department (PWD) Minister, who is also the Chief Minister, Pema Khandu, to maintain close supervision over the project's progress.

Earlier, the PWD highway department issued a termination notice to the executing agencies, Woodhill Shivam and TK Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd., for not meeting the project milestones. The project, which included a 3.9 km two-lane flyover, was expected to be completed by December.
