Manipur Govt urges Centre to stop flights amid surge in Covid-19 positive cases

Guwahati: Manipur government has urged the Central Government to stop passenger flight services to Imphal for the next 10 days (from June 19 to June 28) to enable the state to clear a backlog of Covid-19 tests of incoming passengers.

The government has made this request in order to clear the pending backlog of testing in Manipur and also to clear the congestion in quarantine centers.

In a letter to the joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry Usha Pandhee, the DGCA, and the AAI, chief secretary J Suresh Babu had requested to issue the necessary instructions to all the airlines.

The State Government has contended that due to the heavy inflow of people, there is a substantial delay in testing and there is a huge backlog of 15,000 samples pending results.
