IMPHAL : Security personnel apprehended a cadre of an underground rebel outfit named PLA in Manipur's Jiribam area. Along with the cadre, a drug peddler was also nabbed from the same region. 

Illicit items worth Rs 3 lakhs has been seized from the two individual's acquisition. Security personnel recovered 28.40gm heroin from them on 26th of November, Thursday. 

The incident took place when seven insurgent groups namely, banned PLA, UNLF, PREPAK and KCP announced a shutdown in Manipur for 18 hours. 

As per the statement of the Assam Rifles, both the arrested individuals caught with illegal drugs is an active member of the proscribed PLA outfit. Furthermore, both the accused along with the seized drugs were handed over to Manipur police department for further legal investigation and proceedings. 

Based on a specific information regarding presence of an underground cadre member acquiring drugs, Srikona Battalion of 21 sector Assam Rifles under the supervision of Headquarter Inspector General in association with local police, launched the operation.

In the 'war against drugs', this particular encounter by Assam Rifles, will not only eliminate the unlawful activities of narco terrorism, but also it could be considered as another milestone in the journey of total eradication of drug money fuelling insurgency in the area.

The Assam Rifles mentioned that the ongoing smuggling activities carried out by culprits in and around the state of Manipur, is currently a major cause of concern.

Not just in Manipur, several parts of the Northeast is witnessing varied drug cases, each passing day. On 24th of January, Tuesday, Assam Rifles recovered a huge amount of Marijuana worth Rs 19 lakhs from Assam's Karimganj district.

The cops arrested one individual in the same regard from Karimganj's Rongpur area. The seizure has been made by a joint operation team including the Radhanagar Battalion of Agartala sector Assam Rifles along with Ratabari police station. As per sources, the task has been carried by a collab team constituting Assam Rifles, Police personnels, Custom Unit and LCS Champhai.

The entire team carried out the operation based on a prior secretive information. The seized consignment was later submitted in the hands of Custom unit on Tuesday.
