
IMPHAL: In a daring attack on a security post, unidentified assailants raided an India Reserve Battalion (IRB) outpost in the Kakmayai area of Thoubal district, Manipur, and stole a large quantity of weapons and ammunition, authorities reported on Sunday.
The attackers, who were in multiple vehicles, stormed the IRB outpost late on Saturday night and overpowered the officers there. Officials confirmed that the gunmen escaped with a large amount of weapons, including at least six Self-Loading Rifles (SLRs) and three AK rifles.
Along with the firearms, the assailants also took approximately 270 rounds of ammunition and 12 magazines that were being stored at the outpost. The theft has triggered an immediate response from local authorities, who have deployed additional security forces to the area.
A comprehensive search operation is now underway as officials step up efforts to track down the perpetrators. At the same time, an investigation is underway to identify those responsible for the incident and uncover the motive behind the attack.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and war-like stores from various districts in violence-hit Manipur during a series of joint operations between January 6 and January 9, according to an official release.
The recoveries were made in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching. These joint operations were carried out by the Assam Rifles, under the operational control of the Indian Army, in coordination with Manipur Police.
"In a series of successful joint operations, the Indian Army in coordination with Manipur Police and other security forces, had recovered 19 weapons, ammunition, and warlike stores from both hill and valley regions in the districts of Thoubal, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, and Kakching in Manipur," the release had stated.
