IMPHAL: In a series of coordinated operations, the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and other security forces have made significant gains in maintaining peace and security in Manipur.
These operations conducted in Churachandpur, Kangpokpi, and Thoubal led to the recovery of 14 weapons, ammunition, and other warlike stores (WLS). The meticulous planning and execution of these operations underscore the high level of coordination among the security forces operating in the region.
On December 2, 2024, acting on specific intelligence about the presence of arms and ammunition in the Loiching Ridge area of Kangpokpi district, a joint team of Assam Rifles and Manipur Police launched a targeted operation.
The security forces recovered several highly sophisticated and locally modified weapons during this operation. These include a sniper rifle, a Lathode gun, two 9mm pistols, and an SBBL gun. The operation further seized ammunition and other WLS. It therefore emphasized the vigilance and rapid response of the forces to potential threats in the area.
On the same day, another successful operation was conducted in the Churachandpur district, which was at Phaikhothang Village. The operation was on the basis of actionable intelligence and was conducted in collaboration between Assam Rifles and Manipur Police.
The team recovered a cache of arms which consisted of a 7.62 mm self-loading rifle (SLR), a 12-gauge SBBL gun, and a 9mm pistol. Along with the above weapons, the team also recovered ammunition and other warlike materials.
This recovery further consolidated the commitment of the security forces to neutralizing threats across a diverse terrain in Manipur. Two intelligence-based joint operations were conducted on December 4 and December 6, 2024, in Thoubal district. In the first operation conducted in the Fungi Ching area near Leirongthel Pitra, a major arsenal was recovered which included an SLR, carbine machine gun, double-barrel rifle, two pistols, grenades, and other warlike stores.
The second operation in the Pechi area resulted in the seizure of another weapon, ammunition, and more warlike materials. These back-to-back operations demonstrate the relentless efforts put into dismantling networks involved in the illegal stockpiling of arms and ammunition by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and Manipur Police.
All recovered items from the above operations were handed over immediately to Manipur Police for further investigation and disposal. These joint operations indicate the coordination and synergy in operation between the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, and local law enforcing agencies.
These operations are a demonstration of the operational preparedness of forces as well as a significant deterrent to elements trying to create disturbances in the peaceful region.
The recovery of these arms and ammunition is an important reminder of the significance of intelligence-driven operations in countering insurgency and ensuring public safety. The security forces continue to reaffirm their commitment to protecting the people of Manipur and creating an environment of peace and development in the state by proactively addressing the threats posed by illegal arms proliferation.
