IMPHAL: The Koubru Range Liangmai Women Union (KRLWU) has firmly stated that the indefinite blockade of Sak-puiluang Road (SP Road), which connects Churachandpur and Kangpokpi, will continue until an apology is issued for the offensive and provocative actions carried out by Kuki miscreants at K Lungwiram village, Konsakhul, on January 7, 2025.

On that day, a Liangmai woman and her family were verbally abused and physically assaulted by a group of Kukis while using an excavator to level ground for the construction of their house at K Lungwiram. The Kukis also seized and destroyed the woman's mobile phone. KRLWU executive member Wikhonliu emphasized that the Kukis have no right to object to Liangmai people building homes on their own land.

The Government of Manipur must ensure that appropriate punishment is given to those Kukis responsible for their unwarranted aggression, stated Wikhonliu. She reiterated that the blockade of SP Road will persist until a concrete solution is reached and the Kukis issue an apology. Koubru Range Liangmai Community vice-chairman Shanger Chawang called on the Government to address the issue promptly to prevent it from escalating into another communal conflict.

Meanwhile, Indigenous People Forum Manipur president Ashang Kasar condemned the repeated targeting of Liangmai Nagas by Kukis. He pointed out that the Kukis, in their attempt to assert dominance over the Nagas, have even resorted to physically assaulting women—an act that cannot be ignored. Kasar emphasized that Nagas have inhabited the region for generations, while the Kukis arrived much later and have begun imposing their will. This behavior, he said, is intolerable.

He warned that if the Kukis persist in their land-grabbing activities, despite the Nagas' consistent efforts to promote peaceful coexistence, the Naga community will not remain passive. Kasar affirmed that the Naga community will fully support any decision made by Konsakhul and the Liangmai people regarding the matter. He further warned that if the Kukis continue their aggressive and provocative actions, the Nagas may be forced to take measures to expel them from Naga areas.
