IMPHAL: Termed as a "gift" for the year 2021 to all the womenfolk of Manipur, a terrorist convicted for a rape and murder case has been eliminated by a section of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the oldest militant group in the state.

According to reports, a terrorist who escaped from jail in Manipur while undergoing trial in a famous 2003 kidnapping and murder of 8-year old minor of a former state minister has been awarded "capital punishment" by a section of the UNLF in Manipur.

The UNLF in a press release said that the deceased identified as Thokchom Nando Singh was executed in an undisclosed location for his inhuman and barbaric crime against the innocent 8-year-old girl.

Further, the UNLF termed the act as their "gift" for the year 2021 to all the womenfolk of the state.

It is to be mentioned that in the year 2003, the Class 3 girl was kidnapped from her school gate in November and after spending nine days in captivity, her decomposed body was found bundled inside a gunny bag.

Notably, the rebel group constituted a special task force for catching Nando, succeeded in tracking him down on Monday and killed him off after a trial the next day.

Earlier in 2017, the same outfit claimed to take the life of one Irom Bobo who confessed to raping a minor.

Reportedly, Bobo was charge-sheeted in 2013 for allegedly raping his 11-year-old niece. He had also spent some time in jail and was out on bail.

Meanwhile, three armed men shot Irom Bobo after bringing him blindfolded in a car to Tera Pukhrambam Leirak area of Imphal. The trio fled soon after putting two bullets in Bobo's head.

The United National Liberation Front (UNLF), a banned outfit, later owned up to killing Bobo. "He confessed to raping a minor and so we gave him exemplary punishment," it said in a statement.

Militants in Manipur and elsewhere in the northeast have been known to take moral policing to an extreme level.
