IMPHAL: Schools, colleges, and universities across Manipur will reopen on Friday, November 29, 2024, as the state's law and order situation has shown some improvement.
Normal classes for all educational institutions—government, government-aided, private, and central—have been confirmed to resume from Monday, as a notification issued on Thursday by L. Nandakumar Singh, Director of Education (Schools), informed.
Similarly, the Department of Higher and Technical Education has announced the reopening of government-aided colleges and universities from the same date.
All zonal education officers have been directed to notify the schools and colleges coming under their jurisdiction and make appropriate action for opening.
Since November 16, when violent battles broke out in the Imphal Valley, educational institutions have remained shut. Following the somber finding of six deaths in Jiribam area on November 15 and 16, including those of three mothers and three children, there was disturbance.
In order to safeguard the people, the courses were postponed by the authorities due to the heightened tension that ensued after the incident, especially in the Imphal East and Imphal West districts.
Gradual re-opening of schools and other institutions will mark one step towards normalcy in the state as authorities are working towards restoring peace.
Parents and teachers alike have hopes that their children may return to school without disruptions while work is still in place to redress issues that caused these disruptions.
