

JIBIRAM: In a major operation against drug trafficking, a joint team of security forces intercepted a truck in Jiribam district, unearthing a huge consignment of cough syrup containing codeine phosphate. The operation took place around 4:00 PM at NAKA checkpoints where personnel of the SMPU of Jiribam District Police, under the leadership of Sub-Inspector A. Krishna Sharma, along with the 38 Assam Rifles and QATs of the 87th and 156th Battalions of the CRPF, converged to carry out the operation.
The team apprehended a truck bearing registration number AS03CC-0252, which was hiding 1,560 bottles of WINCEREX cough syrup in 13 different boxes. According to law, the consignment was impounded and the truck driver, identified as 52-year-old Maibam Premjit Singh from Nongpok Sekmai in Thoubal District, was arrested.
The seized goods and the arrested person are handed over to Jiribam Police Station for further investigation. A case has been lodged under FIR No. 06(02)2025 JBM PS for the offense punishable under sections 21 (b) and 60(3) of ND&PS Act. Further investigation into this matter is ongoing. The successful intercepting of this significant shipment of drugs underscores the continuous efforts of the security forces to fight drug trafficking in the region. Authorities are vigilant and committed to dismantling such illegal operations to ensure community safety.
