IMPHAL: Two men were injured in a shooting incident carried out by unidentified armed assailants in Imphal East on the evening of December 17. The incident took place at around 7 PM, leaving the victims wounded and prompting law enforcement agencies to launch an investigation.

The victims, identified as T. Hemanta, son of T. Nodia of Sagolband, and Y. Kesho, son of Y. Ibohal of Sekta Awang Leikai, were shot in their legs during the assault. According to reports, the armed assailants opened fire on the men and fled the scene immediately after the attack.

The injured men were immediately taken to a nearby medical facility, where they are undergoing treatment. Their condition is under close observation.

The motive for the attack remains unknown, prompting authorities to urge residents to stay vigilant. Citizens have been asked to report any suspicious activities that could help in tracking down the perpetrators.

Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the case, with more details expected as the inquiry continues. The incident has raised security concerns in the area, underscoring the need for strengthened measures to ensure public safety.

Meanwhile, earlier this month, a soldier from the 4 Mahar Regiment was injured from a minor gunshot wound in the Imphal East district on Sunday as the tension in the state escalated into violence.

Clashes continued to break out in groups leading to increased security concerns in that area.

The shooting incident occurred in the wake of a flurry of violent incidents. A separate attack took place in Jiribam. In the past weeks or so, Manipur has witnessed a spate of gunfights reported, which are stretching local resources and raising fear among the people.
