GUWAHATI: On Sunday 28 November, OC of Margherita Police Station Someswar Konwar accompanied by other police officials seized one Maruti Omni van which was carrying illegal coal hidden inside the van.

The interception of the vehicle was based on specific information to the police.

On Sunday afternoon officer in charge of the Margherita police station apprehended 2 coal thieves at the Changlang Margherita Road located close to the Namdang Colliery.

Inside the intercepted Maruti Van in Changlang Margherita Road the police discovered a total of eight sacks of illicit coal and arrested the two coal thieves.

One was identified as Krishna Kt Deb, 32, who lives in the Station Para area of Margherita, Assam and the other individual caught stealing coal was identified as Libian Gogoi, 30, living in the Jayanagar area of Margherita.

According to sources the Maruti Omni van bearing registration number AS 23A 4121 along with the two thieves were taken to the Margherita police station.

A case number 267/2021 has been filed against the two coal thieves at the Margherita Police station and then both are sent to be kept under judicial custody.

Earlier on last Sunday this month, in another case of coal stealing, Margherita Police seized a vehicle of Tata Magic Passenger which was loaded with a total of seven sacks of illegal coal.

Many illegal traders dealing with coal in the area of Margherita under the district of Tinsukia have been using various new techniques for the transportation of vehicles bearing a load of illegal coal that usually remains hidden under timber, green leaves and sand.
