Guwahati: Meghalaya registered 2 more fresh Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, July 1. With this, the number of positive cases rose to 55, while the number of active cases climbed to 12.

The new cases are armed forces personnel who belong to the same camp in Shillong where two other personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, June 28, said Conrad K Sangma, the state's Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma. He added that both the two cases are high-risk contacts of a positive case from the camp.

"The two COVID-19 positive cases that were detected today are the close contacts of an earlier positive case. As of today, as many as 5 armed forces personnel in the state have tested positive for the contagion", Sampath Kumar, the Commissioner and Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare told The Sentinel Digital over the phone.

It needs mention here that in June, India has seen a significant bump in the number of COVID-19 cases, with the number rising at a breakneck pace. The country has seen over 5.85 lakh cases till June 30 — this means that over 67% of total cases were registered in the past 30 days.
