2 Meghalaya cops suspended over road mishap

Authorities on Saturday suspended two Meghalaya police personnel who were in the escort vehicle of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui's convoy on Thursday when it hit a bike.

SHILLONG: Authorities on Saturday suspended two Meghalaya police personnel who were in the escort vehicle of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui's convoy on Thursday when it hit a bike.

The bike rider died on the spot, while a pillion rider was seriously injured in the accident.

According to sources, sub-inspector of the Armed Branch Kromith Marak and driver constable Dimsrang N Sangma of the East Garo Hills district executive force have been suspended until further order by East Garo Hills Superintendent of Police,Bruno A Sangma.

The incident took place at Khera in East Garo Hills district during the movement of the Home Minister from Rongjeng to Williamnagar, police said.

The Home Minister was part of a convoy coming from Shillong through the Nongstoin-Williamnagar-Tura highway for a review meeting with Superintendents of Police from Garo Hills.

The police Gypsy escorting the Home Minister's motorcade at the tail collided with the bike coming from the opposite direction. Police also informed that a case has been registered for further investigation.
