2 More Meghalaya Congress Legislators Tender Resignation

The working president of MPCC James Lyngdoh and former general secretary and Chairman of MPCC Labour Department Dr. Manash Das Gupta submitted their resignation on Wednesday 1 December.

SHILLONG: In the latest development for the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) and following another setback, James Lyngdoh, the working president of the committee and former general secretary Dr. Manash Das Gupta submitted their resignation on Wednesday 1 December.

James Lyngdoh has resigned from the MPCC party after working for the party for a long period of 33 years. Lyngdoh was a member of the newly constituted team of the Meghalaya Pradesh Congress Committee led by President Vincent Pala.

Lyngdoh has alleged during a press conference at Shillong Press Club that the president of MPCC Vincent Pala has dismantled him off his responsibilities associated with the party and sidelined him.

Lyngdoh claimed in his letter to Congress headquarters that serving for 33 years he never faced any issue with the past presidents of MPCC but now Vincent Pala decided not to assign him with any work and all others in the party treated him like he is no more needed for anything.

He was a hard-core congress leader says Lyngdon and while talking about his next step he said that he is thinking of joining another political party but has not yet decided which one.

Along with James Lyngdoh another senior leader Dr. Manash Das Gupta also resigned with immediate effect from his post of Primary Membership of INC (Indian National Congress) and as Chairman, Labour department, MPCC and chairman, Vichar Vibhag, MPCC.

Gupta worked with the party for long 36 years and until this latest reshuffle was serving as the General Secretary for 14 years.

There has been a major change in the political parties of the northeastern state of Meghalaya as earlier Mukul Sangma, former Chief Minister of the state resigned and joined the Trinamool Congress along with 11 congress legislators among the 17 legislators.

TMC has now become the main opposition party in Meghalaya and it has delivered a major blow to the Indian National Congress just before the 2023 Meghalaya Assembly Elections.
