5 Covid-19 patients recover in Meghalaya, active cases down to 29

The state has so far registered 44 coronavirus cases, out of which 1 has died

Guwahati: 5 Covid-19 patients in Meghalaya been recovered from the respiratory illness on Thursday, after testing negative for the virus twice. With the recovery of this batch of patients, the number of active cases in the state has fallen to 25. To date, the state has registered 44 cases of the virus and a single casualty.

Meghalaya registered its latest case of the virus on June 10, when a pregnant woman, who is due to deliver a child in a week, tested positive. Earlier, he husband had also tested positive for the virus. "One high-risk contact of a positive patient has tested positive for Covis-19 in Shillong. The person is under medical supervision", Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma tweeted.

It is pertinent to mention here that Meghalaya reported its first case on April 13, 2020. A complete curfew was also clamped in Shillong owing to the virus spread, bringing a complete halt to activities in the capital. Gradually, 12 more people -- the late index patient's relatives, employees, and friends -- were tested positive in quick succession, taking the tally of cases in the state to 13.

It needs mention here that India on Thursday recorded its biggest single-day jump new coronavirus cases and deaths with 9,996 fresh infections and 357 patients dying, taking the total number of cases to nearly 2.8 lakh cases. This is the ninth consecutive day that the country has reported over 9,000 COVID-19 cases. India is the sixth-worst hit country in the world and lies behind the United States, Brazil, Russia, UK, and Spain.
