SHILLONG: The 57th Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) Day was celebrated at the Rhino Auditorium at Headquarters 101 Area. A week-long programme was held to commemorate the day, which began on August 18. The Zonal President of AWWA, Nivedita Malik, presided over this commemorative event. The programme commenced with interaction with ‘veer naris’ and families of all units in Shillong. A lecture on "Option for Higher Education through Open Universities and Improving Skills for Women's Empowerment" was organised for the benefit of the ladies by Dr. S. Maxwell Lyngdoh.
The Indian Army, while committed to the nation's security and safeguarding, is equally concerned about its soldiers, their families, and the ‘veer naris’, and keeping these in mind, the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) carries out numerous initiatives all around the year to address the concerns of the families and the next of kin of the soldiers. To mark the initiative of this welfare organization, the Indian Army every year celebrates AWWA Week to felicitate ‘veer naris’, widows, achiever children, etc. During the event, ‘veer naris’ were felicitated.
Nivedita Malik presented laptops to the students of Army Public School (APS) Shillong, who stood first in the Ethics Bowl Debate Competition conducted by Headquarters Eastern Command, Indian Army. PC tablets were presented to class X toppers at APS Shillong and Happy Valley. (ANI)
