Guwahati: 9 more Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have tested COVID-19 positive in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, raising the active virus caseload in the state to 66. The state has so far reported 45 recoveries from the dreaded virus.

Earlier in the day, another jawan had tested positive in the state's capital city of Shillong. It has been reported that out of 3 new cases that were detected in the morning, one is a Border Security Force(BSF) personnel and the other two infected patients are returnees from Bihar and Delhi respectively. Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma shared this information in his tweet quoting " 3 more tested positive for COVID19 in Shillong. 1 from BSF and 2 returnees from Bihar and Delhi."

India's coronavirus count increased to 7,42,417 on Wednesday as it recorded a rise of over 22,000 COVID-19 cases in a single day, even as the recovery rate further improved to over 61.5 percent, according to Union Health Ministry data.

Amid murmurs of community transmission in the country, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has claimed that the country is yet to reach such a stage. After chairing a Group of Ministers (GoM) meeting, he said, "During our discussions today, experts again stated that there is no community transmission in India. There may be some localized pockets where transmission is high but as a country, there's no community transmission."
