SHILLONG, July 21: The Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE) and the Garo Students’ Union (GSU) are on the same trajectory with the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) concerning the issue of allotting land to Nagaland Government for the purpose of construction of a guest house.

The ADE and the GSU is also not against any particular state or people being given infrastructural facilities for the people who come for treatment at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGRIHMS) but expressed their concern over the need to have a guest house facility for people belonging to the Khasi, Garo and Jaintia community and coming from distant corners of the state.

In a statement issued by Tengsak G Momin GSU president and Dalseng Bira Ch Momin ADE president today said, “The main hardships faced by our own people are where to stay during the treatment period. Scarcity of cheap lodging facilities near the Institute compel the people to stay in costly hotels at Shillong.”

The NGO leaders further said that they have the arduous task of commuting 12 or 13 kilometres daily to attend to their patients. The are of the view that the particular land allotted to Nagaland be allotted for the benefit of their own people and an alternative land be allotted for the benefit of the Naga people.

The ADE with GSU expressed its solidarity with the KSU on this issue and demanded of the authorities to provide boarding and lodging facilities for the people of Meghalaya immediately and that a guest house for the indigenous people of the state be constructed at the earliest.
