Shillong, June 26: Shillong North MLA , Adelberth Nonrum officially submitted his suggestions to the High Level Committee (HLC) on the relocation of the residents of Sweepers’ Colony. Taking his official stand through a representation to the Chairman of the HLC, Nongrum reminded that the Harijans residing in the area are mainly employed with the Shillong Municipal Board and some other departments, even as he added the concerned departments should take responsibility of their own employees and relocate them to their respective quarters so that illegal settlers can be removed from the area. Mentionably, the Sweepers’ colony episode has sparked into a huge law and order problem last month with shillong still under night curfew. It nearly flared into a communal issue ,had not the district administration acted wisely. Nongrum, without naming the organizations coming from outside in the past one month, categorically stated that people from outside the state should not interfere in internal issues of the state.
