SHILLONG: The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) leader Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said that he had video recordings of illegal coal mining that is going on. Dr Sangma said that illegal coal mining has been going on for years and what is happening since the last few days is just the tip of the iceberg. According to him, the way things are going, the state will be bankrupt. He also said that people will get emboldened and engage in illegal activities, since the stand on the government is to be on a denial mode.

Dr Sangma also said that certain forces were getting funded by this illegal coal mining and transportation, which includes the people who are trying to float new militant outfits. "There is already movement taking place and with this easy money coming into the hands of people, what are they going to do with this money? They are going to buy sophisticated arms and create the same kind of problem through which the State has gone through," the AITC leader said.
