Amit Shah Calls Meghalaya One of the Most Corrupt States of the Country

SHILLONG: The Union Home Minister of India called the state of Meghalaya one of the most corrupt states of the country while urging the voters of the state to vote for his party. One of the key points in the list of election-time promises of the Bharatiya Janata Party is to make the state of Meghalaya completely free of corruption.

Amit Shah took part in an election rally in the Tura region of the state on Thursday when he launched a verbal attack on the ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance. The central minister blamed them for the misappropriation of funds and asked the public to remove them from power in the upcoming elections. He was campaigning from the Don Bosco School playground in the North Tura assembly constituency for six candidates including Bernard Marak, Adamkid Sangma, Thomas Marak and Bakul Hajong when he made the comments. BJP’s National Secretary Rituraj Sinha and Assam Assembly’s deputy speaker Numan Momin were also present for this event.

“I appeal to all of you to vote for the six candidates and help make the BJP stronger in Meghalaya so that we can open the door of development for the state. Make them a part of our PM, Modi’s team,” mentioned the home minister.

“Corruption has been ruling the roost in the state of Meghalaya for the past 50 years. From 2014 to 2023, under the guidance of Modi, development has taken place across the country but it has not reached Meghalaya. Make BJP a strong party in Meghalaya and we will kill off corruption in the state forever,” he added.

He also mentioned that the state government had failed to implement several of the schemes created by the central government. Also, the failure to solve several problems of citizens including power supply, health and education facilities among others.

It is noteworthy that the Bharatiya Janata Party was a coalition partner with the National People’s Party which had a majority in the previous Meghalaya Development Alliance government.
