Shillong: The Meghalaya Government has welcomed the government of Assam’s gesture to provide Rs 10 crore for the National Games scheduled to be held in Meghalaya in 2022. On Wednesday, Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this offer on the floor of the House.

Meghalya Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Banteidor Lyngdoh told The Sentinel that this gesture from our neighbouring State demonstrates the heart of a brother. “Although we have not asked for it, we take this as a blessing that comes out from the generous hands of our neighbour”, stated Lyngdoh.

Meghalaya will hold the 2022 National Games and it faces an uphill task of creating infrastructure befitting the sporting extravaganza. However, the minister stated that the government will make an all-out effort to set up everything that is needed.

Lyngdoh said the construction of the main stadium will kickstart by May this year. The amount earmarked for the main stadium is Rs 350 crore.
