Boost to National People's Party ahead of MDC polls

SHILLONG: The National People's Party (NPP) received a big boost ahead of the MDC election on January 31, as members from different political parties from 6th Sohryngkham constituency joined the party, in a meeting held at the party office in Shillong on Friday.

The members who joined the NPP included those from the United Democratic Party (UDP), Peoples Democratic Front (PDF) and Congress.

The meeting was convened by Sohryngkham MDC Pyniaid Sing Syiem in the presence of Jied Kurbah, president, NPP East Khasi Hills district, Phrangki Pohsna, State president, NPP Youth Wings, Nicky Nongkhlaw, State secretary in-charge of youth, besides other leaders.

Some of the prominent members who joined the NPP are – Dhosing Mukhim, Kynsai Dkhar, Handle Mukhim, Kraw Wahlang, Banjop Wahlang, Stanbor Ryntong, Kloibor Dkhar, Was Mynsong and Airfield Dkhar.

Kynsai Dkhar, a former member of the PDF, in his speech during the meeting said the reason he has taken the decision to leave the PDF is because he has confidence in the leadership of the NPP led by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

Meanwhile, Handle Mukhim, ex-MDC of Sohryngkham constituency, informed that his decision to join the NPP is because he has seen how the present MDC functions to ensure developmental schemes are being implemented in the constituency.

Pyniaid Sing Syiem in his speech expressed confidence in retaining his seat from the constituency with the support of the people.
