Border Security Force seizes arms and ammunition, Shillong

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: Acting on a tipoff, the Border Security Force (BSF) on Friday carried out a search operation at an area under Shella border outpost and recovered a number of items including arms and ammunition.

The BSF had got specific input about the presence of a group of miscreants trying to deliver arms to their associates in Bangladesh through some unknown cattle smugglers. However, the persons fled taking advantage of darkness. Efforts are being made to establish identity of these unknown miscreants.

The seized items are: five country-made 12 bore single barrel guns, three cartridges, two knives, three EFCs, a mobile, two SIM cards, and a torch light besides five cattle. In view of the forthcoming general election in Bangladesh, there are chances of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh in the coming days. Inspector General of BSF Meghalaya Frontier Lalatendu Mohanti has already sensitized all border deployed battalions to be more alert to foil such attempts of arms smuggling from India to Bangladesh.
