BSF Meghalaya Frontier observes Police Commemoration Day

SHILLONG: On the occasion of the 60th Police Commemoration Day, BSF Meghalaya Frontier organized a parade at the BSF War Memorial, Umpling on Monday. During the parade, the BSF paid homage to 292 police and Central Armed Police personnel who sacrificed their lives during the last one year, to safeguard the integrity of the nation.

Deputy Inspector General/PSO Ajai Kumar laid the wreath at the War Memorial and paid homage to the martyrs in presence of officers and men of Frontier HQ BSF Meghalaya, sector HQs and the units under its command.

During the parade, two minutes silence was observed to pay homage to all the martyrs.

The day commemorates the sacrifice made by ten CRPF personnel while defending the border with China in 1959. Since then the day is observed as Police Commemoration Day on October 21 each year.

Kumar said. “During the last one year, 41 brave BSF personnel, including 3 officers, 7 subordinate officers and 31 other ranks made the supreme sacrifice while performing duties in different parts of the country and their sacrifices will always be remembered and honoured”.
