BSF organizes free medical health camp at Shillong

SHILLONG: In continuation of its efforts to conduct welfare activities for local population and to bring about health awareness among the people, SHQ BSF Shillong organized a free medical health camp under Civic Action Programme on Friday at Shillong.

The camp was organized as part of series of programs organized by BSF to celebrate its Raising Day. Border Security Force (BSF) was raised on 1st Dec 1965 with the primary role of guarding the International borders with the then West & East Pakistan. Border Security Force has steadily grown into being the largest Border Guarding Force in the world. To mark the day each year a number of events are organized all over India, especially in border areas for the welfare of the local border population as well as to develop a good understating between SeemaPraharies and local population and the administration.

In series of programs celebrating BSF Raising Day, BSF SHQ Shillong organized a free medical and health camp for welfare of civilian population in and around Shillong city. The camp was held at Lal Ground, Mawpat, Shillong from 1030 hrs onwards. Free medical and health camp by BSF was inaugurated by BWWA President Ftr HQ Shillong, Lakhdeep Kaur, wife of Hardeep Singh, IG Ftr HQ BSF, Meghalaya in the presence of Avtar Singh Shahi, DIG, SHQ BSF Shillong, ManjitKaur, BWWA President SHQ BSF Shillong and other members of BWWA SHQ BSF Shillong.

During the camp spectacles and wheelchair was also distributed to the needy personnel of Nonmynsong and Mawpat area. A special team of doctors, and consultants and nurses from BSF and Civil Hospital under the supervision of Dr Richhpal Singh, CMO BSF conducted free consultations and checkups in general health for all the visitors who attended the Medical and Health Camp. In addition to this, free Blood Pressure Checkup, Blood Sugar Checkup, BMI Checkup was carried out on the visitors to create awareness about diabetes and hypertension which is one of the most worrisome health issue prevalent in this region. The visitors were also given free medicines. Locals of all ages from Nongmynsong, Mawpat and neighboring areas were benefited from this camp.
