SHILLONG: The Meghalaya BSF — including Tura and under command battalions — has been organizing the 'Fit India Freedom Run' to raise awareness of the physical and mental well-being.

The 'Fit India movement' was envisioned by the PM of India to encourage citizens to take up physical activity and sports in their daily lives. The programme is being held on the occasion of one-year anniversary of the movement' that commenced from August 15 and will continue up to October 2, 2020. Initiated by the Government of India, its motto is 'RUNNING: The human body's most raw form of FREEDOM", and is aimed at encouraging fitness and help all to get freedom from obesity, laziness, stress, anxiety, diseases etc.

While more than 400 BSF personnel and their family members joined the special run at Dobasipara and Praharinagar on Sunday, BSF Meghalaya organized the run at Umpling in Shillong on Saturday.

The Tura run was flagged off by Ram Singh, District Magistrate of Tura and Surjit Singh DIG BSF Tura. Security and traffic management during the event was ensured by Raghuvendra Kumar, SP Tura.

The enthusiasm along with happiness was quite evident on the faces of the runners.

Earlier on Saturday, the run was flagged off from the Umpling BSF campus in Shilliong. It covered five kilometers. Altogether 200 BSF personnel and their family members enthusiastically participated in the run. This occasion apart from fitness, provides an opportunity to re-affirm the inherent strength and spirit of our nation and also inculcate unity and fraternity.

DIG PRO UK Nayal said on the occasion, "There is zero investment in running with returns unlimited."

He urged all BSF members to bring about a behavioural change in their day-to-day life regarding physical activities and eating habits as well. He also stressed on the measures to be taken by the troops deployed at border to improve their health status, stated a release.
