SHILLONG: Personnel of BSF (Border Security Force) Meghalaya recovered arms and ammunition near a forest at village Chegnigre under Rongra Police Station in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya on March 25. The cache of arms and ammunition is suspected to have been hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), informed sources.

Acting on specific information, troops from Rongra and Chegnigre BOPs (Border Out Posts) of 43 Bn BSF carried out a search operation in the forest area near village Chegnigre under Police Station Rongra within South Garo Hills.

During the search operation, the troops recovered one USA-made revolver of 0.32 mm caliber, 50 numbers of 7.62 mm rounds and four Iron Magazine (supposed to be of AK SVD Airsoft Sniper Rifles).

The GNLA has hidden arms at various places in Garo Hills which they use mainly for extortion purpose and other illegal activities. The seized revolver, arms and magazine have been handed over to Rongra Police Station for further necessary action.

IG, Meghalaya Frontier BSF, Hardeep Singh said, "Our network is at place to unearth more such caches of arms and ammunition which are hidden by banned outfits in the remote jungle areas. More search operations will be conducted.''
