CAB: 11-hour bandh cripples life in Meghalaya

Police van set on fire, 19 vehicles smashed by micreants in Laban

Shillong: North East Students Organisation (NESO) sponsored 11-hour bandh on Tuesday was total in the State on Tuesday. Incidents of stone pelting, vandalism and burning of tyres were reported from many parts of Shillong city.

It was a virtual shutdown as not a single employee was seen in both Central and State Government offices in the entire State.

In Shillong city alone, a police vehicle was burnt down in the wee hours and the burning of tyres was more prominent in Mawlai areas. Similar incidents were reported in the heart of the city. In Shillong south, an area known to be a hot bed of the agitation, barricades were visible in almost every junction. But what surprised the police is the vandalism in Laban area. While a police vehicle was burnt in Mawlai (near FCI), cases of vandalism in Laban area was reported where 19 vehicles parked on the road were smashed by unknown miscreants. A group of KSU supporters also marched to the residence of Laban BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai shouting slogans against the BJP and the CAB.
