Shillong, June 27: Meghalya Deputy Chief Minister and Nationalist People’s Party (NPP) leader Prestone Tynsong categorically stated that candidates contesting from any constituency in the state win in their own merits instead of their party affiliations. On the issue of political dilemma related to Ranikor constituency in South West Khasi Hills, Tynsong, told The Sentinel, “In Meghalya, the elected MLAs won by virtue of their capability, trust and merit and this time Danngo will win on his own merits and party is in the second rung”. The merit aspect was not really underlined in an illustrative manner by Tynsong, yet he was lucid that Martin M Danggo will return as a legislator from Ranikor constiotuency on an agreed format to contest on an NPP ticket. Danggo resigned as a Congress legislator with an outright vow to join the NPP. Danggo continue to be elusive, even as his old hands within the Congress groups are trying to cozy up with the traditional vote banks. Asked on this, Tynsong, said, “we are banking on individual personalities fighting on a party ticket and there is no reason for the local players (regional parties and the Congress) to be virtually part of the fray.” The UDP, a constituent of the MDA government has decided to field Pius Marwein as its candidate.
