Central Working Committee (CWC) to finalize PDF issue today in Shillong

DISTRICT COUNCIL ELECTION

A CORRESPONDENT

SHILLONG: The Central Working Committee (CWC) of the People’s Democratic Front (PDF) will be meeting on Monday to discuss the autonomous district council elections in Khasi and Jaintia Hills.

The meet will also discuss at length whether the PDF should also propose its candidate to the MDA Coordination Committee to be the common candidate of the MDA in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls.

It may be mentioned that another regional party of the State, the United Democratic Party (UDP) had already started its process of naming candidates for the autonomous district council polls slated early next year.

On the issue of a common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition, the PDF had earlier criticized the UDP for asking other MDA partners to support its candidate as the common candidate for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls from Shillong.

According to the PDF, if there should be a common candidate put up by the MDA, the matter should be thoroughly discussed by the Coordination Committee of the MDA.

The first meeting of the MDA Coordination Committee held last week ended inconclusively. The PDF has four MLAs in the Assembly.

Last week, the UDP had gone ahead and projected former legislator, Jemino Mawthoh as the party’s candidate and wants the MDA to accept his candidature when the co-ordination committee meets next time.
