Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma steps in to sort out NEIGHRIMS imbroglio

Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Thursday said that he will speak to the Union Secretary of Health on the allegations against the Head of Department (HoD) Cardiology of the North East Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Science (NEIGHRIMS).

The ‘open secret’ about the HoD came into the picture through an official press release that literally opens up the racket where patients have to buy costly stents and pacemakers from private vendors instead from the subsidized Amrit Pharmacy, located within the hospital.

The official release stated “The vendor in connivance of the HoD Cardiology used to get stents in the morning to the Cat Lab and sell it to patients on the advice of the cardiologists on the day of the procedure at a very high cost, despite the capping of rates by the ministry” while pointing out on how the director of the institution himself intercepted the transaction inside the hospital premises.

The Chief Minister said, “I am concerned about such information and the matter should be sorted out at the earliest”.
