Shillong: The Congress, who has been losing it’s grip in the State, has got a new lease of life with the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. The passing of the controversial CAA is like giving oxygen for the Congress party in Meghalaya,” a Congress member said. He also said that with the passing of the amended Citizenship Act, the MLAs who were to ready to jump ship to the National People’s Party (NPP) are now wary.

“Even the State president of the NPP has said that the stand of the party on the Act has to some extend damaged the image of the party,” the Congress member said.

The Congress has already chalked out plans and lined up series of programmes and hit the streets against the CAA.

Sources also hoped that if the Centre does not implement Inner Line Permit in the State, the alliance partners of the MDA may dump the coalition in favour of the Congress.
