Cleanliness begins from the individual: Conrad K Sangma

Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday said that the problem of garbage starts from an individual.

“If we have to make Tura town clean, everyone has to be involved in ensuring cleanliness; it should start from an individual. Community should pledge and set an example for the society,” Conrad said.

The Chief Minister made these remarks during his visit to the dumping ground in Tura. The dumping ground is located at Rongkhon Songgital.

According to him, the problem of garbage disposal is huge. “...but we are concerned and we will initiate a plan to provide relief to the people facing problem due to waste dumping in the locality. As fast as possible we will start options to look for stopping dumping of waste,” Conrad stated.

The Chief Minister also urged citizens to follow certain steps to reduce garbage like, to stop dumping indiscriminately, segregate plastics and look for option for mass compositing with use of bio chemical, clear spill over wastes from graveyards, to activate existing segregation of waste machine while the Urban Affairs department and the municipality were asked to initiate measures in consultation with the public to resolve the menace. The Chief Minister has also sought full attention from the administration and concerned authorities over the problem of garbage.
