Cabinet discusses CM Task Force on Economy for post-COVID-19 scenario

SHIILONG: The Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday discussed about the Chief Minister's Task Force on Economy for post-COVID-19 scenario.

Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, who holds the Planning portfolio, briefed the Cabinet about the department's proposal for constituting the Working Group and Executive Committee of the task force.

The task force will have six working groups – Finance, Revenue and Investment, Infrastructure and Labour, Primary Sector (Agriculture and Allied sector), Rural Poverty Alleviation and Livelihood, Industries and Trade and Tourism, Entrepreneurship and Skill.

The Executive Committee of the Economic Task Force will be headed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma.

Only Cabinet ministers and senior government officials are members of the apex committee. The executive committee, which is also headed by Sangma, will include academicians, apart from ministers and government officials.

The Cabinet has also approved the Meghalaya State Agricultural Produce and Livestock Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020.

The Bill will be tabled and passed in the upcoming re-assembled budget session of the State Assembly which will commence on May 20.

The proposal to include the Commissioner of Food Safety in the list of head of departments was also approved by the State Cabinet.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chief Minister also informed that till date a total of 4,681 people from the Northeast and other parts of the country have reached the State.

Tynsong also informed that the 4,681 samples have been sent for testing so far out of which 2,597 tested negative and results awaited are 102.

So far the State has recorded 13 COVID-19 positive cases out of which 11 have recovered, one succumbed to the virus and one case id active.
