Shillong: The magisterial inquiry into the coal mine tragedy in Lumthari, East Jaintia Hills district has made substantial progress since it kick started on Tuesday. Sources said that the magistrate heading the inquiry, after making all the initial queries reached the site of occurrence on Saturday. The Head of the inquiry reached Lumthari mining area B .Kharchandi confirmed to The Sentinel that he interacted with the all the concern people but refused to divulge the details.

Kharrchandi has been given 15 days to complete the inquiry. notwithstanding the official Christmas holidays in the next 8-10 days, Kharshandi said that he will try to complete the entire inquiry within the stipulated time. Meanwhile, due the natural circumstances where the water keep on flowing the coal pits, there is little that could be learnt about the fate of the coal miners stucked inside. The numbers of miners who are feared death has mounted to 16. This was based on the missing report provided to the police and the rescuing agencies.
