SHILLONG: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has reiterated its demand for introducing ILP (inner Line Permit) in the State, and also said that it will file a petition challenging the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) in the Supreme Court.

“If everything is in place we hope to file a petition in the Supreme Court by next week,” CoMSO chairperson Robertjune Kharjahrin said after a meeting held here.

Kharjahrin also slammed the Centre for failing to take any decision on the resolution passed by the Meghalaya Assembly on December 19, last year, urging the Central government to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State even as it cautioned the State government "not to ease up on their demands.

“We are surprised that the Centre is yet to invite the State government for talks on ILP. We also urge the State government not to be adopt a laid-back attitude on the issue by thinking that their job is done by passing the resolution and saying that the ball is now in the Centre’s court,” the CoMSO chairperson said. The meeting also resolved to agitate against the visit of Union Ministers to the State in protest against the passing of the CAA. “We will also protest during the official functions of Meghalaya ministers held anywhere in the State,” Kharjahrin informed.

Meanwhile, the CoMSO has also taken serious note of certain groups of the State meeting Central government officials and asking them not to implement ILP in Meghalaya.

“We warn them to stop such activities once and for all,” the CoMSO chairperson said.

Moreover, the CoMSO has also condemned the statements of certain State politicians in the wake of the passing of the resolution on the ILP by the Meghalaya Assembly.

“We condemn the statements made by AL Hek, Vincent Pala and others suggesting that they were against the implementation of ILP. We cannot accept such statements at this stage,” Kharjahrin pointed out.

Terming the Meghalaya BJP as a “confused party”, the CoMSO chairperson said, “On one hand there are statements made by the party's State leadership opposing the CAA; on the other hand they say that they would mobilise support in favour of the Act,” the CoMSO said.
