SHILLONG: The Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO), a conglomeration of various pressure groups of the State, on Monday staged a surprise agitation over the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Activists of the CoMSO began their protest from the office of the BJP where they shouted slogans against the Bill.

From there the activists marched to the Additional Secretariat parking lot, shouting slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Governor Tathagata Roy.

After dispersing from the venue, the activists again gathered at Motphran area where they raised slogans against the CAB and introduction of ILP. The CoMSO condemned the delay on the part of the Meghalaya Governor to give assent to the ordinance on the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act, which was approved by the Cabinet on November 1.

Meanwhile, the CoMSO also said that if the Central Government had assured the implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Manipur it should also extend it to Meghalaya.

“We all know the Sixth Schedule does not have any regulation to protect people from the unabated influx. But the ILP can shield the indegenous people from being overwhelmed by immigrants,” CoMSO, chairman Robertjune Kharjahrin said.
