SHILLONG: The Confederation of Hynniewtrep Social Organization (CoHSO) comprising of 14 pressure groups on Tuesday urged the people of the State to attend the public meeting to be held at Madan Student, Jaiaw on January 31, to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
Addressing reporters here, chairman of CoHSO Robertjune Kharjarin said, “We urge all political parties, NGOs, religious leaders, MDCs, MLAs, traditional heads to attend the meeting and voice their protest against the CAB.”
He informed that the theme during the general meeting will be ‘No to CAB and Yes to ILP’.
“We want to oppose the CAB because once the Rajya Sabha approves the bill in the upcoming session then it will pose a huge threat to the indigenous minority community of Meghalaya and hence there is a need to immediately implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State,” he said. “Since Meghalaya has only one member in the Uppper House, his opposition to the bill will not count. So I urge all the members of Rajya Sabha to oppose the CAB,” said Kharjarin.
