Congress in talks with UDP to form KHADC Executive Committee

SHILLONG: The Congress has reached out to the United Democratic Party (UDP) to form the Executive Committee (EC) in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

On Saturday afternoon, after the results were out, the Congress, led by Mawsynram legislator Himalaya Shangpliang and former MLA Kennedy Khyriem met UDP president Dr Donkupar Roy in his residence to seek support from the regional party.

“We came seeking the support of the UDP to help us in forming the Executive Committee,” Shangpliang told mediapersons after meeting Dr Roy.

The Congress spokesperson pointed out that the Congress with 10 MDCs and the UDP with six can easily form the Executive Committee.

Meanwhile, the UDP president said it was only natural that since the MDA coalition is already working together in the government, the Executive Committee in the Autonomous District Councils will also have the same combination.

“We expect that the same combination that is in the government will form the Executive Committee,” he said. However, Dr Roy has put the ball in the court of the UDP, MDCs. In the evening a meeting of regional parties including independents was scheduled at the residence of Dr Roy.
