Conrad Sangma Launches Airtel 5G Services in Shillong

SHILLONG: Citizens in the capital of Meghalaya will be able to use high-speed internet from now on as one of the biggest players in the market, Bharti Airtel has launched its 5G networks in the city. Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad Sangma officially launched these services in presence of senior members of the brand and other dignitaries on Saturday.

The launch of this new service marks a new development in the state in terms of fast internet connectivity. According to the brand, the services will be rolled out in a phased manner. It will take quite some time for the brand to reach all the customers in the state as construction of the necessary infrastructure as well as upgradation is still going on.

Currently, the Airtel 5G network is operational in some parts of the capital including Laitumukhrah, Lapalang, Nongrah, Governor House, Lummawbah, Jaiaw Laitdom, Pines colony (Laban Red Cross), Mawpat and Riat Sohkhlur.

"Launched 5G in Meghalaya! 5G marks one more step in the connectivity journey in Meghalaya as @airtelindia is building the finest 5G network for the state which will be available for state customers in a phased manner", mentioned the chief minister over his Twitter handle.

Several parts of the state, including some localities of the capital face network problems from time to time mainly because of their hilly demographics and power failures. Some of these problems are expected to be solved with the launch and gradual expansion of these high-speed networks. It has also been mentioned that this new network will support the improvement of multiple departments of the state government including healthcare, agriculture and logistics.

It is however noteworthy that Airtel launched 5G services in Guwahati in the month of November. Although the brand boosted very high-speed differences between the new 5G and old 4G networks, ground reality was found to be different with hardly any noticeable difference between the two.
