Shillong: BJP general secretary in-charge Meghalaya, Nalin Kohli on Friday said that Conrad Kongkal Sangma will continue to be the Chief Minister even after the elections are over.

“I am sure the government is working for its agenda and we are participants in the government. This is an NPP-led coalition Government. Our minister is AL Hek. We have no reason to believe that the government is not working on a positive agenda for the development of Meghalaya,” Kohli said after an event held to pay homage to former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

The BJP general secretary in-charge of the state also said that his party is committed to the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition which the saffron party is part of.

Kohli also said that the BJP expects the government to complete its tenure and deliver its promises and agenda of development.

“That is the only reason why the government is formed,” he said.

When asked on the assurance of the BJP to resolve coal issues, Kohli said that the final decision on policies and decision is taken by the chief minister and his cabinet.

“We are participants and we don’t drive this government. We respect the coalition dharma as we were the first ones as a party to have the biggest coalition in the party under Atal Bihari Vajpayee and ensure a stable coalition and that is how coalition politics evolves in this country,” he added.

The BJP leader said that in coalition dharma, it recognizes the role of each party has to play for the coalition to succeed.

On Vajpayee, he said that he was a person who was loved across all party lines. He said that Vajpayee steered India through a very important period where there was expansion of infrastructure of India. He further said that it was during the tenure of late Vajpayee there was a turn around in India’s relationship with many countries.
