Contractors presume rates revision of Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme

SHILLONG: Contractors who are involved in laying of pipes of the package II of Phase III of Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) have presumed that the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department has revised their rates to complete the project after the State Government recently decided to take a loan of Rs 105 crore. “As per news report, land hurdle is cleared for laying of pipes for GSWSS, but the PHE department is however yet to intimate us to resume the work,” the contractors stated in a letter to PHE, Chief Engineer KD Talukdar.

In the letter to Talukdar, they informed that they had received contract work for laying of new distribution networks for seven urban centers of Shillong – areas under Shillong Municipal Board, Mawlai Town, Nongthymmai Town, Pynthorumkharh Town, Nongmynsong Town and Madaryting Town falling under Package II of Phase III of the GSWSS.

The project was awarded to them in the year 2011-12 based on the Schedules of Rates (SOR) of 2007-08.

“Though all of us have taken up the work for laying of pipes in and around Shillong, the PWD withdrew the permission accorded to PHE department thereafter, sometimes during 2013-14 resulting in stoppage of the work since then.

“We would like to inform that as it will not be possible for us to continue to work at the same rate (2007-08), we presume that PHE department have revised our rates and have included the same in the Rs 105 crore loan,” the contractors said.
