SHILLONG: A good number of youth from the city and other parts of the North-eastern region thronged the second edition of the Shangri-La Cosplay Festival 2018 in All Saints Hall, Shillong on Saturday.

The festival saw participants dressing up as their favourite characters to impress the judges who came from around the country to pick a winner. The event was organised in collaboration with ‘Metropolis Asia’ and ‘Empyre Concord’. The festival serves as a pre-event that will lead to the Metropolis event that will be held towards the end of 2018.

Contestants travelled to Shillong from different parts of the North-east to participate in the festival. One of the organizers of the festival said that one of the objective of the festival is to attract the youths to engage in activities which are positive including reading and to stay away from negative things like drugs, alcohol etc. “Last time when the festival was held a lot of people did not participate however this year the number of people attending the festival has increased by a huge margin,” he said.

When asked, he informed that the winner of the cosplay contest was, however, Katana from the Hollywood blockbuster Suicide Squad. “The winner will choose a partner to represent Meghalaya on the National Stage and if they win, they will go on to represent India in Japan,” he said.
