SHILLONG: The Bethany Hospital here — where the first COVID-19 case in Meghalaya was detected — was sanitised on Sunday.

"By government's order on sanitisation of the hospital and subsequently, disinfection of the entire hospital building has started today," Dr. Kyntiewlang Sanmiet, Quality Manager, Nodal Officer & Spokesperson, Bethany Hospital informed.

Dr Sanmiet added that the sanitisation was done under the purview of Directorate of Health Services based on the Hospital Infection Prevention & Control guidelines by National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.

"Once disinfection is done, a thorough clean-up will follow as per the said guidelines," he added.

Dr Sanmiet, on behalf of Bethany Family, also thanked the Commissioner & Secretary of Health Department, Sampath Kumar and Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr for helping them in this process.

It may be mentioned that Bethany Hospital which is located in Nongrim Hills locality of Shillong recorded the first COVID-19 case in Meghalaya when its owner (L) Dr John L Sailo Ryntathiang on April 13. Subsequently, he succumbed to the virus on April 15.
