Covid-19 in Meghalaya: What are the rules on weddings?

Guwahati: In keeping with the 'new normal' of coronavirus, the Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare department has issued a list of dos and don't for those who wish to conduct weddings amid the virus outbreak.

New Rules for Conducting Weddings in Meghalaya:

The Meghalaya administration has advised that the venue where the wedding will be held should be well-ventilated and preferably in an open space and no air-conditioning should be used.

The venue should be large enough to accommodate the guests with the prescribed 2-metre distance to prevent an outbreak. Additionally, the venue should be sanitized and hygienic.

The Meghalaya Health Department has also urged the proprietors to provide hand sanitizers so that hygiene can be maintained for the guests. The proprietors have also been asked to maintain a list of all the attendees, event managers, and workers of such events.

How many can Participate?

According to the new protocols, the number of participants shall not exceed 50, including all of the hosts. Senior citizens above 65 and children below the age of 10 have been advised to take extra care.  Persons having symptoms of cough, cold, or fever should not be allowed to attend the event. 

According to the guidelines, any gifts that need to be carried by hand must be avoided and online gifts should be encouraged. Additionally, all the guests have been encouraged to download the Government's Aarogya Setu mobile application.

Covid-19 Oubreak in Meghalaya:

It is pertinent to mention here that moments after reporting a recovery on Wednesday, Meghalaya registered one more Covid-19 positive case. With this, the tally in the state once again rose to 17. While 13 patients have been discharged so far, a lone patient in the state has died from the Covid-19 in Meghalaya. With India reporting 8,908 cases in the last 24 hours, the total number of coronavirus infections in India crossed the 2 lakh-mark to reach 2,07,614 on Wednesday. This includes 5,815 deaths and 1,00,302 cured/ discharged. As many as 217 people have died in the last 24 hours across the country.
