SHILLONG: The three-month-long lockdown imposed because of the COVID-19 pandemic has no doubt impacted the livelihood of the people and that of the SSA teaching community as well.

The non-disbursement of salary for two months since April has made matters worse for the teachers during the lockdown.

The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers' Association has written to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma seeking the release of their two months' salary that has been due since April 1, so that they may manage their livelihood requirements easily as the lockdown continues to be effective.

The aggrieved teachers have informed that they have not been paid since April and May and the delay in salary disbursement has hurt them immensely during the crisis.

"We are struggling with our domestic lives as we are unable to run our families. Our situation is such that we have had to cry in front of our children over the lack of remuneration over the past 2 months," said the release to the Chief Minister sent on June 10.
