SHILLONG: Meghalaya recorded six more COVID-19 cases in the State taking the total tally to 50. Of these, 23 are BSF personnel. Director of Health Service (MI), Dr Aman Warr said that of the six new cases, one is from Ri-Bhoi district and five are from East Khasi Hills district. Of the five cases in East Khasi Hills one is a Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and four are civilians.

Giving a breakup of active cases district-wise, Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek informed that, there are 29 active cases in East Khasi Hills, 15 in Ri-Bhoi, West Garo Hills — three; South West Garo Hills — two; and East Jaintia Hills — one. Of the 21,823 samples sent for testing till Tuesday afternoon, while 21,414 are negative; results of 320 are awaited. On the other hand, 43 patients have recovered and two died due to the virus.

Hek also informed that the BSF authorities have tested 865 samples at the BSF Composite Hospital Umpling. Of them, while 23 tested positive, 563 yielded negative results and the report of 281 are awaited.

Meanwhile, State Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong informed on Monday that the government had asked the Deputy Commissioners of East Khasi Hills and Ri-Bhoi districts to conduct an inquiry into the wedding ceremony held at Greenwood Resort, Guwahati where 41 people from Shillong had attended it. It may be mentioned that five online inter-State passes were issued to four residents of the State. Each pass was valid for one-way journey and one person per vehicle was allowed. However, 41 persons attended that wedding.

Tynsong also said that legal action will be taken against the people responsible for the lapse. "Anyone found guilty will be behind bars," the Deputy Chief Minister said. Hek informed that of the 41 who were tested with rapid kits, 39 tested negative and two were found to be positive.
