SHILLONG: Meghalaya is witnessing a drop in COVID-19 active cases with the number of new recoveries surpassing the fresh infections. However, the number of fresh infections remains high. Director of Health Services (MI) Dr Aman War informed that on Tuesday, the State recorded 14 deaths, 467 new infections and 760 new recoveries.

With the latest figures, the State now has 592 total deaths, as many as 6,606 active cases and a total of 28,867 have recovered from the virus. Of the 14 new deaths, East Khasi Hills recorded 12 and South West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills registered one each.

Of the 467 new cases, East Khasi Hills recorded 257, Ri-Bhoi (67), West Garo Hills (36), South West Khasi Hills (29), West Jaintia Hills (22), South West Garo Hills (19), East Jaintia Hills (12), West Khasi Hills (10), North Garo Hills eight, South Garo Hills four and East Garo Hills three.

The district-wise distribution of active cases are - East Khasi Hills (2,998), Ri-Bhoi (915), West Garo Hills (614), West Jaintia Hills (551), South West Garo Hills (393), South West Khasi Hills (315), East Jaintia Hills (230), West Khasi Hills (171), North Garo Hills (157), East Garo Hills (135) and South Garo Hills (127).

Of the 592 total deaths, East Khasi Hills recorded 481, West Jaintia Hills (38), West Garo Hills (26), Ri-Bhoi (14), East Jaintia Hills nine, North Garo Hills, South West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills five each, South Garo Hills four, South West Khasi Hills three and East Garo Hills two.
